What do you want to be when you grow up?

Is it just me or are people always asking this? As a child, through high school and even now when I am something, is it enough? How will I make it work?

Lately, I have been feeling that unless you say that you want to be a Doctor, Engineer, Accountant, Nurse, village person, then your aspirations aren’t legitimate. We spend so much time trying to conform into one of these “safe” jobs. Yes jobs, that we spend half of our time looking at the college and university courses that might fit what we might want o do. Really we are only doing to make our parents happy or to prove that we have a safe job, can take care of ourselves and will be able to almost retire after working constantly for 35 years. With all our retirement savings we may or may not have, we will be able to now finally travel or do the things we wanted to do way back when we were kids.  If we are able to, keep in mind we are now around 60 plus years old. Why do we have to wait so long to do what we want?

My thoughts, be what YOU want to be when you grow up. There is a way to make your perfect day a reality and get paid for it. There is only one you, and what you bring to the table, no one else does. You can get paid for this. My steps for creating your career, dream life, job are as follows:

Think Outside the Box

Don’t feel stuck by the norm and what people say is safe. Let people question you and challenge you, but don’t get caught up if you don’t have all of the answers. The answers will come as you continue down the path. You didn’t know how to tie your shoes until you started wearing shoes that had laces. When the time comes you will know the answers. Everything in your life has been preparing you for what's to come.

Plan your Perfect Day

If you are feeling stumped, it's normal. We’ve spent so much time trying to fit into a particular mould that society wants us to fit in that it takes practice to get out of it. Sit back and write down your perfect day. What does it look like? Where are you? Who are you with? What is your home like? Your car? What do you have planned for the day? How much time are you spending doing each of the things you want to do in a day? Use this to create your perfect job or biz.

Embrace Entrepreneurship

Thinking outside the box means you may have to create your own. Entrepreneurship is a natural next step when you are creating a role that maybe no one has thought of or heard of before. Being a Boss means you are in control of your schedule, you have freedom and you can count on you!

Make a Plan

This isn’t going to happen in a day, but make a plan and work towards it. Little by little. You will slowly build your dream biz and be living your perfect day.

Ready to create your dream day? I would love to collaborate with you.

-Yours in the Hustle-
