Scale your Biz

As we come into the colder temperatures and we make Google Flights our home page, we make a plan to get out of the cold. It’s nice to have a business that allows you to step away. One where your absence doesn’t mean that everything is coming to a halt. The wheels can keep turning and you can keep making money while enjoying your winter vacations.

Scale it

Scaling your business essentially means creating a way to stop exchanging time for money. You want to scale it so that you put in the effort once, and that can be replicated/resold/packaged. For example, my own one-on-one coaching is me trading time for money. This one-on-one time with me isn’t necessarily scalable, but if I record myself advising on a topic once, it can be re-used in the future without me putting in additional time. My live videos are a great example of putting in the time once, and being able to refer clients back to it. Blogs are another great way to do this. You put one piece of advice, recipe or workout online once and its there to reference back to in the future. Personally to Scale, I’ve created my Sell Authentically: Make Money and Your Momma Proud program. It’s a way for people to purchase a course that I spent months creating content for and go through it at their own pace. I put in the time once and the content can be used for people looking to improve their sales process now or in the future. The difference between the two avenues in my case is the cost. One-on-one coaching is more expensive because I’m catering my content to a particular person versus content that caters to a more general topic. The course allows me to step away and still have an opportuntiy to make money through a more passive income.

Looking at your Business

So as you daydream about your vacation, you want to be thinking of ways you can scale your business. When it comes time to step away, you will have a plan in place. Sometimes it’s not just creating courses, it might be actually having someone step into your place. By developing the process and procedures in your business now, it can help create a smooth transition for someone stepping into your role later. As you continue to grow your business there will be more employees and having a clear company culture, set of values, brand, role descriptions, and rule book can help with the growing pains.

You need to be Replaceable

You don't want to be the only one that can do your job, having other people that can step in is key to scaling your business. Some people are afraid to share their knowledge because they don’t want to be replaced or have their employees leave and do their own thing, but it’s crucial to creating independence from your company. You do want to retire one day right? If you create a well-running company you can sell it, or step back and still make money from it. You’ll have free time to create another business or write a book which is a scalable/passive income opportunity in itself. When you’re creating or building your biz, it’s important to think about how to scale them.

I know being a business owner is like having a child. You feel like you can’t let go of the business or step away because things might go wrong, and you have the answers. So share the answers and allow yourself to be replaceable. Need help? Send me a note.
